Four star rated Woodbury Lodge is spectacularly set against a cliff above the Bushmans River valley, in a malaria free area of Amakhala Game Reserve. It offers an intimate and tranquil experience of the Eastern Cape riverine bushveld at its best. It is the ideal place for families, small groups or those seeking a truly romantic retreat to relax and enjoy the bush together. Guests are often thrilled by the late afternoon sighting of the elephant herd passing by or the magnificent sunrises over the cliff’s horizon.
We take special care to ensure that a heartfelt service combined with the correct ingredients of breath-taking accommodation, fresh food and exciting game viewing, will make your African safari experience a memorable and enjoyable one.
A range of game viewing and other activities such as the river cruise, bush walks and even horse trails are on offer. To relax, you could just recline around the communal swimming pool and enjoy some sun while the birds keep you company. In the evenings you can relax under the African stars around the central fire place while the bar keeps you well supplied.
Rooms: Guests are accommodated in seven comfortably appointed stone–and–thatch sleeping lodges, beds are either king size or two singles on request , all connected by stone walkways tucked away into indigenous trees alive with birdsong. Each with air conditioning (hot and cold) and en–suite bathroom with heated floors and a private deck with magnificent views over the plains.
Within the portfolio are two family lodges which can sleep up to four guests separated by a wall partition to provide privacy. The seclusion of the suites from the main lodge and central commune area, along with the design of the bathrooms and individual outdoor relaxation areas, enable our visitors to enjoy the unique and breathtaking views at their leisure.
Location: Take the N2 from Port Elizabeth to Grahamstown. Approximately 70 kilometers, cross the Bushman’s River and turn right at the thatched Woodbury Lodge signposted entrance. Continue through the Reserve, following the signs to Woodbury Lodge.
