Hotel Description

Tranquilo Bay Eco Adventure Lodge is an all-inclusive resort in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Set in 200 acres of tropical rainforest and mangroves within the Bocas del Toro archipelago of some 68 tropical islands, owner-run Tranquilo Bay overlooks the warm Caribbean Sea with its coral reefs and diverse marine fauna. There are hiking trails for wildlife watching and you can take boat rides to secluded beaches for snorkelling and swimming.

No need to give up your creature comforts here. Hot showers, air-conditioning, a comfortable bed, and handcrafted meals made with fresh local ingredients welcome you at the end of your adventures each day. Communal dining and private cabanas allow you to both share time with other guests and have your own private space.

Our team curates your stay using your details. You spend your time disconnecting from the everyday, trying new things, learning about nature, and relaxing with your party members.

Accommodation: The interior of each of our nine accommodations is comfortably appointed with air-conditioning, local hardwoods, tile floors, fine linens and a calming color palette to welcome you at the end of your adventure each day.

Each unit features a king or queen bed or two double beds, handcrafted for Tranquilo Bay from local hardwoods with an orthopedic mattress. Each spacious bathroom includes a large walk-in shower with hot water.

A covered porch with a hammock and Adirondack chairs awaits to help you escape the “every day” that you left behind when you enter the grounds at Tranquilo Bay.

Activities & Adventure:

BIRDING & WILDLIFE SPOTTING: The tower was designed to be extremely safe and user friendly, so that it may easily be enjoyed by bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts of all ages.

The wildlife and views of the forest canopy from the tower are absolutely incredible, but the natural history lesson alone is worth the ascent. From Volcan Baru’s 11,400’ peak in the cloud forest of the Talamanca mountain range, down the slope of Western Panama to the coral reefs beneath the Caribbean’s surface, every life zone known to the tropics can be seen from this single vantage point above the forest’s canopy.

BEACHES IN PARADISE: If serious beach time is what you desire, then Bocas del Toro has one just right for you. Tranquilo Bay is centrally located in the heart of the archipelago, which makes it possible to visit a different beach everyday during your stay.

All beach excursions depart directly from our comfortable facility where our staff will handle the preparation of everything you need for a relaxing beach experience. Plenty of cold drinks and sweet rainwater are packed with your favorite sandwiches and plenty of fruit.

BIRDING & WILDLIFE Tranquilo Bay rests on a nature preserve of over 200 acres. In less than a week you might see white faced monkeys, night monkeys, two and three toed sloths, iguanas, caiman, blue morpho butterflies, a variety of frogs and lizards.

Each guided excursion will be tailored to meet your group’s areas of interest, experience, and physical abilities. Most explorations have a post-breakfast departure and include a picnic lunch in the field. Some birding excursions require an early morning departure.

FISHING BOCAS DEL TORO: The secluded western Caribbean coast of Panama is wild and undeveloped, which is exactly what makes fishing these waters so remarkable. The fishing in Bocas del Toro is world class, not world famous, we rarely see another angler. Come fish with us and let exotic wildlife and big fish, surrounded by a surreal untouched landscape, create the fishing experience of a lifetime.

Local fishermen in Bocas del Toro fish year-round for snapper, jacks and barracuda. When pursuing game fish the most consistent months are March through May and September through mid November. The Caribbean Sea in Panama tends to have waves, and more wind during the peak of winter and summer.

PANAMA RAINFOREST HIKING: Walking through the jungle is a surreal and vivid experience. As you enter beneath the rainforest canopy, cool moist air and profound shade envelop all within. Surprisingly dark inside, a slight feeling of insignificance begins to sharpen your awareness.

INDIGENOUS CULTURE Panama is home to seven different indigenous groups. These groups comprise about five to eight percent of the country’s population. Of the entire indigenous population, the Ngöbe–Buglé comprise about one half.

Bocas del Toro has a comarca (reserve) for the Ngöbe–Buglé on the mainland as well as a number of different villages within the islands. Most of our village visits are to those on Isla Bastimentos and Isla Popa. The children are timid but love to have their photo taken. We frequently encounter indigenous people on other excursions or onsite – our employees. Service projects for the schools within the villages may be arranged with advance notice for a group.

KAYAKING & PADDLE BOARDING: All activities and excursions depart directly from our comfortable facility where our staff will handle the preparation, maintenance and portage of the equipment. Snorkel gear is provided on all excursions to fully explore the underwater realm of brilliant tropical fishes living amongst vibrant coral reefs.

SURFING PANAMA’S WAVES: We know you came here to surf, not paddle. We explore these waves from the comfort of our facility, traveling to all locations via boat. Our fast 26-foot boats will drop you right by the take-off point, and then anchor in the channel to serve as a rest stop. Cold beverages, towels and shade are never more than a short paddle away. When you’re done resting, there will be no reef dance in the impact zone to get back to the take-off spot.

Location: Tranquilo Bay is an owner-operated eco adventure lodge located on Isla Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro, Panama adjacent to Bastimentos National Marine Park.

We have over a kilometer of Caribbean coastline covered in coral gardens teaming with tropical fish. Our facilities encompass over 200 acres, with over a mile of hiking trails full of wildlife. At least 75% of the acreage has been left to evolve in its natural state.

The province of Bocas del Toro hosts two national parks, one of which is a world heritage site. One park, Bastimentos National Marine Park, covers a large portion of the archipelago and is home to a variety of ecosystems that thrive at or around sea level. Our expeditions into the parks are designed to cover a diverse range of ecosystems and terrain and can be tailored to meet your group’s areas of interest, experience and physical abilities on your Panama vacation.
