Hotel Description
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge owes its name to its founding companies, Tiger Tops and Mountain Travel.
The companies, which came together in the early 1970s, pioneered high adventure in Nepal – jungle safaris, Himalayan trekking, white water rafting, tourism in Bardia National Park, film location management, tourism policy consulting, international tourism development and marketing. Setting the standards for environmentally responsible conservation tourism from the seventies, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge is now working on models of sustainable tourism.
We ensure that all our stakeholders derive sustained benefit: guests, staff, local communities, the government, and our shareholders. The lodge is independently audited for its responsible tourism annually – one of only 2 hotels in Nepal – by JUSTreport UK.
Sir Edmund Hillary KG opened the Lodge in late 1998. Perhaps the best designed village resort in Nepal, the lodge has won several prestigious awards including the Best New Eco-tourism Product Eco Awards 1999 and is Highly Commended by Conservation International (Eco-tourism Excellence Awards 2000).
National Geographic Adventure has included the Lodge as one of the World’s Top 50 Eco-Lodges – the only one of its kind in the sub-continent and invited the lodge to join their top 25 Unique Lodges of the world.
With eighteen rooms in thirteen individual bungalows all constructed from local materials and in the local architectural vernacular, the hill top setting ensures every room has dramatic and different views of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna or Manaslu Himal.
The gardens are designed to flow naturally and blend with the surrounding village lands and community forest. Grassy banks are be-speckled with wild flowers for most of the year. A swimming pool has the finest views of Machhapuchhare, or Fish Tail. All rooms have private verandas and some have their own private gardens too.
The Lodge emphasises pure relaxation at the gateway to the high Himalaya with a range of complementary therapies, Ayurvedic and shiatsu massage, yoga and meditation under the concept of “The Essence of Tranquillity.”
We operate a table d’hote dining system with served breakfasts, Nepali buffet lunches and served continental dinners; alternate options are always available and special dietary needs are easily accommodated.
Food is often organic, and locally sourced. Meals are authentic ‘home-style’ cookery. Snacks are available at any time of day. A well stocked bar is open whenever guests wish.
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge is the ideal place to relax before, or after, a trek as well as being a good base for day walks to explore the local villages of Gurung, Brahmin and Chhettris, each with their distinctive culture, architecture and lifestyles, for those wishing to walk but not trek.
Picnics, sightseeing forays into Pokhara and further afield, micro-light flights, paragliding, golf and mountain bikes are all easily arranged through our own or partner companies. With our own expert local guides to lead walks, guests can engage and learn about the flora, fauna and culture of the area in an easy, relaxed manner.
A range of wildlife monitoring programmes and a strong Community Support Partnership Programme engage the lodge staff with the local community. Almost all activities are included in the cost.
The lodge is closed for the monsoon from mid-June to early September annually. Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge welcomes approximately 1,000 guests annually.
