Hotel Description
Deep within the Kenya Masai Mara National Reserve, Rekero offers a spectacular location from which to watch the Great Migration as the wildebeest thunder across the river just outside camp.
This traditional East African Kenya camp evokes the romance of safaris from a bygone era. The elegant tents form a tranquil oasis perched strategically above the mighty Talek River of our Mara tented camp. The sweeping views from camp take in the surrounding plains of the Maasai Mara, which support some of the greatest concentrations and diversity of wildlife in Africa.
The cherry on top is the warm hospitality of our team and our world-renowned game-viewing guides with years of expertise – in such good hands, you are ensured an incomparable Masai Mara Kenya safari experience.
Accommodation – Rekero’s nine spacious tents are laid out along the river’s edge under a network of shady trees. Designed in classic safari style with a fresh, contemporary edge, each tent has an en-suite bathroom with hot-water showers and flushing toilet. To make them even more comfortable, each tent has a large private veranda with an inviting day bed or couch where you can take in a view of the river
Camp Experience – Rekero is an intimate, comfortable and relaxed riverside safari camp where you are enfolded by the surrounding African wilderness. Hippos grunt in the pools below, the smell of wild sage drifts through the air and herds of wildebeest often can be seen crossing the Talek River from the main deck. This blissful location means that fantastic game viewing can continue, even when relaxing in camp. The friendly and highly skilled camp crew have worked together for many years; together with our internationally recognised guiding team, they create a truly insightful safari experience every time.
Meals – Our delicious home-cooked meals are usually enjoyed communally. Our chefs prepare all meals in camp, and bake fresh bread, biscuits and muffins daily. Breakfast is a tempting buffet-style spread – choose from a Continental or a full English breakfast. Light, buffet-style lunches in camp include fresh salads and vegetables with your main course. Alternatively, ask for a picnic breakfast or lunch so you can maximise your time in the bush. Tea and cake at 4pm are a camp tradition. Dinner is a three-course silver service or plated affair.
Location – Rekero Camp is quite simply in the best spot for viewing the Great Migration, when vast herds of wildebeest enter Kenya on their long trek through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Close to the Talek and Mara rivers in the south of the Maasai Mara, Rekero lies in the heart of one of the most game-rich areas the Reserve has to offer, with a remarkable abundance and variety of year-round wildlife and spectacular scenery.
