Hotel Description
Lumbalumba Resort is a small and informal dive & snorkel resort in Manado – North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Located in the heart of the world famous Coral Triangle.
Our tropical garden paradise – doesn’t have a lot of accommodation and the resort can be called small. Our property is large and more than 3 hectares big. Most of it is a beautiful and well maintained tropical botanical garden
A wide variety of (fruit) trees, palms, orchids, bamboo, bougainvillea and other tropical plants are part of your daily views. We are always looking for new species and over the years have collected a great collection of different plants and trees.
Our Pool – You won’t find a more beautiful pool in Manado or North Sulawesi.
The use of natural flagstones and the all around overflow, gives a stunning infinity effect, even at 40 meter above sea level. The deepest point is 2.5 meter deep, suitable for dive courses and you can take a serious plunge.
The pool is kept clean & clear with a pool ionizer that uses silver and copper to keep the water clean & clear. It not only reduces the use of pool chemicals (no more chlorine smell or red / irritated eyes) but it also makes the water much more silkier and smoother then traditional chlorine pools. You’ll notice the different as soon as you dive into our pool.
Along one side of the pool we have created a beach with real, white beach sand. It can’t get much better with a cold Bintang beer, your toes in the sand while enjoying the most spectacular sunsets in North Sulawesi.
Lounge chairs are placed strategically around the pool so you can enjoy the amazing sunsets with a cool drink from the most comfortable position. Over the years amazing pictures have been made in combination with the special optical illusions our pool can cause.
Food & Beverage – The bar & restaurant are located close to the pool and is the central meeting point for all guests. Breakfast, lunch and dinners are served here. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet style. For lunch we have a set menu to choose from.
We have wide variety of mainly Asian style dishes and our kitchen is one of the many reasons why we have a 40% repeat guest rate.
The bar offers a good choice of beverages. Soft drinks, beer, several varieties of wine and international & local spirits are available. Revol, our bartender, holds the recipes of many different cocktails. Enjoying a sun downer from our restaurant or pool is a guest favorite.
Our Chalets – 9 rooms in 3 different types of accommodation. Our guest accommodations are all set on a mountain slope, surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens and the most spectacular sea views across Manado Bay and the Celebes Sea. You won’t find any better ocean views in North Sulawesi!
All our accommodations are equipped with the same facilities such as a private en-suit bathroom, AC and a large terrace with panoramic views across our gardens and the ocean.
Amenities – Wi-Fi, 24 hrs electricity (220 V/50 Hz, German/Dutch type Refrigerator, Personal safe, Air Conditioning, Ceiling Fan, En-suite Bathroom with wash basin and hot/cold shower Large veranda Incredible ocean & garden views Hammock.
4 Stand Alone Chalets – They are suitable for 2 guests maximum per chalet, though a baby cot would still fit in and is possible. From these chalets you have the most incredible views over Manado Bay. Almost all the islands in Bunaken National Park can be seen from here, with the extinct volcano Manado Tua most prominent in sight.
The Stand Alone Chalets were the first ones built when we started the resort. Already 20 years old but it perfect shape because of all the maintenance we continuously do.
Double Chalet – This chalet has two rooms under one roof which are named Napoleon and Frog Fish.
They can be used individually but can also connect. Hidden behind the wardrobes is a door that can be opened if necessary. Since the bed rooms are wider than the rooms in the free standing chalets, a third bed is also an option.
Family Chalet – located in front of the swimming pool. It has sea view and of course looks out over the pool. It has three rooms which can be used individually or connected.
The three rooms – have their own private access from a pathway through our garden and to their respective facilities as an en-suite bathroom, veranda, air conditioning and fan, fridge and personal safe.

Dive & Snorkel – Bunaken National Park, Spectacular coral walls, amazing fish life and fantastic muck dives
Bunaken National Park in North Sulawesi is an official recognized and protected Marine Park.
Bunaken National Park reefs have the highest levels of marine biodiversity anywhere found on the planet. Which isn’t surprising as it is located in the heart of the Coral Triangle, the worlds epicenter of biodiversity. Not only for corals and fish, but also for many other marine organisms. Diving & snorkeling Bunaken is an amazing experience.
The Northern section includes the 5 main islands: Bunaken, Manado Tua, Siladen, Mantehage and Nain. It is the biggest part of the park. All the islands are surrounded by plateau reefs and end with the steep, impressive drop-offs which Bunaken National Marine Park is famous for.
There are however, a few sites with sloping coral reefs as well. This section of the park is also famous for its sheer number of turtles. It’s not uncommon to encounter 30+ turtles during 1 dive!
The Southern section is smaller and consists entirely of coastal area. There is excellent muck diving, and many divers rate the diving there higher than the Lembeh strait. It has also one of the best coral walls in the park. We often dive here as it’s our own front yard, only 10 minutes away from the resort.
Dive & snorkel sites in Bunaken National Park – Sea turtle Lumbalumba Resort – Manado Bunaken Marine park
Lekuan I, II and III – Bunaken Island – These are the 3 iconic and most famous dive & snorkel sites in Bunaken National Park. Rich with fish and well known for the incredible amount of green sea turtles that call these sites home. The steep walls of Lekuan I & II drop down to 100m+ while Lekuan III is also very suitable for beginner divers and dive courses.
Mandolin – Bunaken Island – This site is named after a music instrument because of the harmony you will find at this dive site. Some say it is better at the top, some say it is better in the middle, and others say it is best at 30-35 meters. All these different opinions have one thing in common; no matter where you dive at Mandolin, it’s spectacular! It’s mainly a steep wall but there are a few sloping parts, very good for snorkeling as well.
Tanjung Kopi – Manado Tua – One of the most spectacular and challenging dive sites at the foot of an extinct volcano. Huge coral heads, schools of reef fish and often big pelagics make it spectacular. Strong currents make it challenging but also bring out the big fish; schools of jackfish, sharks, tuna and barracuda’s are not uncommon and will show you how to behave in the current!
Out on the dive boat – The boat is scheduled to leave for scuba diving at 08:30.
After breakfast you walk down to the jetty and dive center where you will find all your equipment already on the boat, ready to go scuba diving. Everything has name tags on it as does your personal equipment mesh bag. Just double check that all your dive gear is there.
Dive sites are chosen together with the boat crew, guides and other guests. The closest dive sites are about 10 minutes away and it can take up to 1 hour to get to the furthest dive sites around Bunaken Island. This all depends on the dive site selection and which boat your are on.
Diver / guide ratio is maximum 4:1 but often 1:2. If necessary we can even do 1:1.
We have 2 boats: Diver III (pictured below) and Diver IV (pictured above). They are specifically designed & equipped for a day of scuba diving on the ocean. Both have a toilet on-board. During the boat ride to the dive site you can sit outside on the front to enjoy the view or go to the sunroof to work on your tan. Diver III is catamaran style, has inboard engines, is larger but slower than Diver IV. Diver IV is smaller, has outboard engines and is much faster than Diver III.
