Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms, set at the foot of Simonsberg in the Franschhoek wine valley. It has a fruit and vegetable garden of beauty and diversity, unique accommodation, fine food and wine, and evokes a sense of wellbeing.

Babylonstoren offers an authentic experience of 1700s’ Boland farm life, with all the luxury of modern convenience. Babylonstoren lies at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain, between Paarl and Franschhoek in the Western Cape region of South Africa.

Today it is a farm, a farm hotel, a restaurant, greenhouse, bakery, larder, spa, cellar and a learning centre. Babylonstoren is also home to an organic food garden of great diversity: eight acres of vegetables and aromatic herbs.

Each of the air-conditioned apartments retains historic details, such as wooden farm doors, fireplaces and thick stone walls. They are also equipped with modern kitchens, designer bathrooms and cable TVs. Free WiFi is provided. A fresh breakfast is provided daily.

There is an indoor pool as well as an outside pool featuring a sun terrace with views of the mountains.

A botanical theme combines with moody interiors, incorporating swarthy four-poster king-size beds, dusted moss walls, luxurious en-suite marble bathrooms and generous walk-in cupboards. Each room is fitted with a cast-iron stove, contemporary accessories and furniture such as an extra-length MDF Italia sofa.

Each open-plan cottage has a luxurious en-suite bathroom and lounge area with thick walls, elegant gables, a hearty fireplace and bookshelves filled with a wonderful selection. Into this pristine Cape Dutch style, a contemporary glass cube has been seamlessly added to house a kitchen area.

FYNBOS FAMILY HOUSE – Sleeps 10, 5 en-suite bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, spacious lounge, private pool and courtyard

Up to ten guests are accommodated in five individual bedrooms, each comprising a fireplace and spacious en-suite with marbled tile floors and luxurious freestanding baths to soak away your worries. Leading off the spacious lounge is a contemporary glass cube, seamlessly encompassing a fully equipped kitchen. The heart of the house is the private central courtyard, offering a gathering space for friends and family to share. A crystal pool in the centre of the courtyard is fed by a shallow channel, emulating the streams on the rest of the property and providing the tranquil sound of gently trickling water.
