Experience total freedom in your own bush house in the heart of the Maasai Mara Conservancies. Animals stroll right past the front doors of all three of these private sanctuaries, and you have total freedom to set the pace of your own safari escape.
Topi House Experience – Your private bush experience begins the minute you land at Ol Kiombo airstrip: even the short drive home to Topi House is an incredible game-viewing opportunity. Designed to be your very own private bush home in the middle of Africa’s greatest ecosystem, Topi House occupies a coveted spot with unrivalled access to the eastern side of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
The house has three spacious en-suite bedrooms that are linked by a large veranda running along the front facade. At the far end is the living area, which is made up of an open-plan sitting/dining room complete with an open log fire. Guests can also relax around a campfire near the house, under the stars.
Your team will prepare all meals to the usual high standard and will cater for bush picnics or lunches out on the lawn under the shade of the acacia trees. Like Acacia and Mara houses, Topi House is not hosted but comes with a full complement of well-trained and experienced staff at your disposal, including a chef, professional safari guide and house manager to ensure a seamlessly run and personal safari experience. The area, with its rolling hills, is also ideal for bush picnics and sundowners with a view.
Meals – Our mouthwatering home-cooked meals use ingredients sourced in Nairobi and from nearby local communities. Flexibility is key in our approach to meals: enjoy breakfast and lunch in camp or take a packed meal with you so that you can extend your game-viewing experience. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements – our camp chefs will be happy to cater for your needs.
Location – The property is positioned directly on the wildebeest migration route and has been known to experience huge volumes of game right up to the front door. Topi House is located in a small thorn-tree forest between Olare Orok Conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve, in a site carefully chosen to maximise the striking views over the national park boundary and into the reserve beyond. From this coveted spot you enjoy unrivalled access to the eastern side of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
Activities – Safari is a very personal thing and can be enjoyed in many different ways. At Mara Bush Houses it is our firm belief that any safari expedition should be done on your terms, according to your routine and your time scale.
Game drives – Expert guides take you on twice daily game drives. Watch herds of elephants drink at the waterhole or stay with a pride of lion as the cubs play and fight with one another. Our vehicles are either open game-viewing vehicles, or closed vehicles with big windows, high roofs and hatches that open. All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.
Community & cultural visits (at additional cost) – The culture of the natural guardians of this land, the Maasai, is both complex and fascinating. Time spent with the local guides in their home communities is a rich and rewarding experience, often the most memorable moment of a safari here.
Hot-air balloon safaris (at additional cost) – This is a romantic and evocative way to experience the wilderness of East Africa
Horse Riding (at additional cost) – They say four legs are better than two, so what better way to experience the bush than on horseback? Ride out across the open plains with the wind in your hair and watch dazzles of zebra and towers of giraffe from atop your stallion.
