Hotel Description
Diving Mozambique at the Eco Dive Resort – Nuarro Lodge – where dreams come true!
Located on the shores of the warm and azure Indian Ocean in northern Mozambique, lies the remotely, but specifically chosen Nuarro Lodge. Backed by the wild Mozambican bush, fringed with old and established baobab trees to the back; and fronted by the calm and aquamarine bay of Nanatha, the lodge is peppered along a more than 2km-long, powdery-white beach in the middle.
Rooms – There are family rooms (chalets 5 and 10), double rooms (cottages 1 and 2) and triple rooms (remaining chalets). Double rooms have a king size bed, Triple rooms a kingsize bed and a single bed. Family rooms have a Kingsize bed and 2 single beds in the room. There are ten stunning beach-front chalets and two cottages, peppered along the (more than 2km long) beachfront.
The 100m² chalets are all built from local, natural materials and were built by local people. Built on the dunes, designed to blend in with the natural environment as much as possible, all chalets have sea view and private access down to the beach. The chalets are larger and can accommodate up two extra beds, making it perfect for families. The cottage (approx 80m²) has a smaller footprint to the chalet, but is otherwise identical in every way.
Each chalet has a generous mosquito-net-engulfed, king-sized bed that can also be converted into two three-quarter single beds.
Interior of the Chalets – The open-plan bathroom has a refreshing shower, vanity slab with a basin, separate eco-toilet and an outdoor shower (for rinsing off salt water and possible moonlit showers for the more adventurous). A large individual solar panel system has been connected to each chalet, in order to provide, the very best hot water shower with great water pressure, while still being sensitive to the environment.
Furnishings include a hand-made desk with chairs, and some comfortable day loungers inside and a large veranda with an extremely comfortable hammock. This is the perfect place to relax in the afternoon, after some fantastic diving in morning!
There are plenty of plugs for electronics such as cameras, phones and laptops, and 24 hour solar generated power a day to recharge. There is a footpath that runs along the rear of all the chalets to allow access and ease of walking. Alternatively access can be gained through the private pathways to each chalet from the beachfront.
Beach Bar – To relax the day away, chill out after an exhilarating activity or simply watch the whales swimming in the bay (from July to November), the Beach Bar is a great relaxed spot where light snacks can be enjoyed throughout the day. The Beach Bar is located on the eastern side of the lodge, next to the Activity Centre and has a large wooden deck giving a full sea view and beach access. Comfort and a laid-back informal atmosphere are the themes at this spot.
There is also wifi in this area, so a super place to check in on home or (only if you have to), the office
Restaurant – Located on the western end of our beach, is our open and elegant restaurant and cocktail bar. Stunning vistas out over the bay and Nanatha Rock. All of our delectable meals are served here, and it is a popular place to hang out, relaxing amongst the enormous cushions in the sunken lounge, tasting some bar snacks, sipping some ice cold beverages, and recalling the day’s events to fellow guests and Nuarro team. Our menu changes constantly, but you can expect the freshest seafood delights available, prepared in both local and international styles. Chef Afonso and his kitchen crew are very open to try and accommodate any dietary restrictions and child requirements (and eating times), with sufficient notice!
Reception – has a guest computer for internet access or wi-fi is also available for you to log on from your own devices. Guests can either enjoy the bush-lined walkways to their chalets from reception, take the beach route or be driven, if more convenient. Just a short walk down towards the sea, you will find our comfy beach bar, where cocktails are a plenty and the beers always cold! A scrumptious snack menu is also available for those post dive munchies. A bit further along, you will find our Activities Centre
Activities Centre – Located next to the beach bar, the activities centre is where you will learn about all the various things there are to do at Nuarro! In addition to diving, there are an extensive array of activities such as snorkeling, whale watching (seasonal), sea kayaking, picnic trips to isolated beaches, mountain biking and village trips. The Activities Centre also has a comfortable sitting area with books and magazines (and a television –shhhhhh). It doubles up as a classroom, where you can learn all you need to know about diving, if you do not already.
Nuarro Beach – fringes the bay and runs along the front of the entire lodge, making a half moon shape, all the way past the village and to the point of the Nanatha bay. The beach itself spans more than 2km in length, which makes for some magnificent early morning runs (on the low tide) or late afternoon romantic strolls.
There is often some beach volleyball (sometimes rather intense competitions) in front of the activities centre, or sometimes the remnants of some fantastic sandcastle building, designed by the happy, duly occupied ‘little’ Nuarro guests, to be found on the beach. Some guests even opt for a back massage under the shade of the Casuarina trees on the beach.
Access to the beach is easy, right from your own private pathway from your chalet, or the beach bar and activities centre or the restaurant. Of course, Nuarro is one of the only lodges in northern Mozambique that has shore entry diving and snorkeling right from the beach!
