We have a PERFECT LOCATION right by the Atlantic, close to the beautiful white sandy Kotu Beach, in the centre of Kotu with restaurants, markets and a variety of activities on your doorstep, including fishing and an 18 hole golf course.
ACCOMMODATION:
HOTEL ROOMS: Bakotu has an African lodge feel to it – clusters of rooms, cool white on the outside, set within exotic gardens. Rooms are simply and tastefully decorated, each with its own furnished terrace or patio so you can enjoy the peaceful setting. Air conditioned rooms are available and fans and fridges can be hired from the reception.
ROOM TYPES: Twin or Double – for individuals or two persons & Family rooms – have bunk beds and can sleep up to four people
HOTEL APARTMENTS: With an enviable view over the Kotu Creek Basin, our one bedroom apartments are in a separate annex – perfect for those looking for a more private setting, more space and more comfort.
All apartments have a large furnished private terrace overlooking Kotu Stream Basin to the south, whilst the front facing Kotu Stream Road offers street watching. The sitting room is open plan with a newly installed modern contemporary kitchenette and small dining table. The apartments are accessed from Kotu Stream Road or via the hotel nature walk.
ROOM TYPES: One bedded apartment with double bed and en-suite bathroom / An additional bed in sitting room, with separate bathroom entrance.
THE POOL AREA: The pool area and surrounding terraces are exclusively for the use of hotel residents only. The hotel does not provide pool towels. In case you have no room in your baggage, or if you have forgotten your towel, there are pool/beach towels available in the supermarket to buy.
THE GARDENS: Enjoy the birdlife from your balcony or terrace from early morning to late at night. The botanical gardens have evolved over 40 years and feature a variety of mature native trees, both soft and hardwoods, and boast the largest collection of palms in The Gambia.
Apart from our tortoises which are kept safe, all the birds and animals are wild and come and go as they please. During the day, monkeys amuse with their antics, jumping and squabbling. Please do not feed them.The elusive genet cat and bandicoots come out only at night with the owls.There are gold fish, terrapins and monitor lizards – and frogs- in the ponds.

OUT & ABOUT: Kotu is a fantastic area. It is vibrant and interesting with lots and lots of variety to keep you busy and entertained.
ENTERTAINMENT: Troupes perform at the hotel on special occasions and weekly at Boss Lady. The dancing is fascinating! Jolas, Mandinkas, Woloffs, Serrehs, each have their own style – and it is not unusual for people to join in, in fact you are encouraged to do so!
Softer background music is played at Captain’s Table on the kora, a string instrument, and the balafon, a wooden xylophone, sometimes with drum accompaniment. During the day Bakotu has a nice quiet and relaxing atmosphere. There is no poolside entertainment or load music to disturb the birdsong or the sounds of the sea.
By Day: Explore on Your Own or Excursions: Whether you come for the beach and enjoy swimming, surfing, fishing, beachcombing, excercise or sports, there is activity here for everyone to enjoy. Or there are walks through the rice fields and market gardens, birding opportunities, biking, canot, and horse riding possibilities. The area is safe to explore on your own or choose to hire a guide – organise your own daytrip -and enjoy an in-depth Gambian experience.
The Street Scene: For those who enjoy people watching, the street is the perfect place. From early morning to late at night, street activity will keep you entertained.
By Night: Drums, Bars, Eateries and Restaurants. There are many restaurants to choose from. At night there may be adhoc dance or drumming and guests are always encouraged to join in the fun

There are many trips, tours and excursions available – Popular options are Bush and Beach safaris, walk with the lions at Fathala in Senegal, boat trips, canoe excursions, market trips, craft workshops, city and village tours, the monkey park, the crocodile pool and a wide variety of birding trips available.
